lauracurtin
Anyone know of a mid fire glaze that would give the effect of a bronze casting? thanks, Laura
Bill Kielb
Search głazy.org for bronze glaze to mix your own or for a commercial glaze, Amaco makes one, saturation gold I believe. Be aware, generally these are not considered food safe glazes.
Callie Beller Diesel
All of the ones I know of are finicky. It’s more than just chemistry, it’s application and firing that’s important. Be sure to read the notes and instructions provided.
Jeff Longtin
I've had great luck with the Palladium glaze from Amaco. I hoped I would have similar success with Saturation Gold. I did not. Every application looks like bronze. As Callie mentioned it is finicky however.
Callie Beller Diesel
@Jeff Longtin Do you have any tips around firing and application? I’ve not worked with them myself, and I’ve seen lots of people struggle with the finer points.

I thin the glaze, Palladium, and I apply 4-5 coats. (By thinning it I can brush out the brush marks.) My work is slip cast cone 6 porcelain. I think the porcelain helps the glaze melt better and the smooth surface of the clay form contributes to the smooth surface of the glaze.
