Harriet9
Hi, I’m slip casting a large 11” bowl and using my usual slip recipe that vitrifies at cone 4. It doesn’t seem to be vitrifying even though the smaller pieces in the same firing are. I’m already dealing with some warping sensitivity so don’t want to take the temperature any higher. They are thicker than the other pieces, maybe that’s affecting the vitrification? Would love some advice or help. Thanks!
Bill Kielb
Have you confirmed you have reached cone 4 using witness cones? Peak Temperature is not nearly as meaningful. For larger heavier items generally one would fire slower than for small thin items but still terminate at a particular cone.
Sorcery
I recently had a larger pot on the bottom bottom not reach temp though it's closest cone was down. Just not enough heat movement on the underside. They're talking on the "cone 5 hold" thread about holds to penetrate larger walls. Sorce
