Catatonic
A friend heard I was beginning to do pottery and offered me her old Duncan kiln, which I gladly accepted. Turned out the switches and sitter assembly were all missing, but the brick is in top notch condition and it has most of the furniture. Called a guy who repairs Duncan kilns and he said it could cost as much as $700 to make it operational (after replacing elements, buying new switches, etc.) but it would essentially be a new kiln. A sitter kiln. He sold me an automatic one for half that price that he had just fully serviced (Duncan teacher plus) so I feel I got a better deal. I offered the old carcass free to the repairman to fix and sell but he wouldn't take it---said he would never get his time and money investment back if he tried to sell it. Yet I am wondering what can be done with the old guy, cuz I'm that person who can't throw something away if a use can be found for it. He suggested it could be converted to a gas kiln, or be used for raku. What do you all think?
Sorcery
Gas fersure! I take a lil 18" one and a big skutt 1027 to cone 6 with a MR750 on a 100gl propane tank. 12 hour firing, you can get 2 out of a $70 refilled tank. Sorce
