Ralph
Is it possible for slip cast parts to release from their mold - and still be wet enough to join to each other with traditional slip joining techniques? Thanks!
neilestrick
You can usually just join them with a little bit of the casting slip without scoring.
liambesaw
Yes, this is one of the awesome things about slipcast stuff. Even when my slipcast pieces are leather hard I can join two pieces together with the same slip I made them with. I used the first two recipes here: https://claybucket.com/recipes/casting-slips/ And for the slipcast stuff I use the slip recipe, and then for handles and bases for my stuff I use the clay body recipe. They're compatible and work well with joining so it's really a nice touch to be able to slip cast the major parts and then add thrown, handbuilt or pulled parts after. Still adds a dimension of hand made to something that would otherwise be fully cast and not unique.
