Gabe Feldmann
Is wood a good material to make molds because i have three that i sometimes use for hexagonal plate forms and would like to use more, if not then what can i put on the wood to keep clay from sticking or something? Min
I use cornstarch, dusted onto the slab before going onto shallow wood hump molds. Some of the molds are made from pine, some from mdf. I usually flip the slab from the board it's on onto a thick piece of foam then dust it with the cornstarch then press the wood mold into the clay on the foam. I then use a board and flip it (without touching the mold) over so it's now upside down. I rib the outside, sometimes add feet, and leave it alone until the clay releases from the wood in a few hours then lift the mold out. I can usually use the mold twice in a day. (I use fairly wet clay and live in a high humidity area) Welcome to the forum.
Chilly
You can cover items (moulds) in clingfilm/dry cleaning plastic covers/cloth/whatever. The best material for moulds for clay is plaster. You can also spray "moulds" with WD40 or dust with talc/cornstarch. But not plaster moulds.
