megansimurphy
Hi, Our studio has been having problems with our white porcelain slip. We had been using this recipe for about 12 years and then it started going wonky. The slip is usually applied on greenware. It has been chipping off before it could even be fired. This is our recipe: Custer Feldspar - 15 English China Clay - 25 Flint - 28 Bentonite - 2 EPK - 30 and add Zircopax - 10 We have tested over 15 other slip recipes and none have quite worked. Our studio clay is Laguna #75 cone 6. Is anyone else there having trouble with their slips? Would anyone like to share their working slip recipes? liambesaw
You can try calcining half of the EPK to decrease the amount of shrinkage. I'd start with calcining half and if it still cracks off, try doing 3/4 calcined, etc.

Grolleg? Fish Sauce Slip is pretty fail proof. I replace the bentonite with 2/3 the amount of Bentone MA (aka Macaloid) to keep it really white. If it's not white enough then add zircopax. (sub Minspar for the no longer available F4)
