airlia
I am new to ceramics and made some beads that were glazed and left to dry on toothpicks. Once dry I strung them on high heat wire in the kiln. My coats of glaze were thin, one coat of underglaze and one coat of watered down glaze, but after firing most have stuck to the wire. The holes in the beads were wide enough for three such wires and I only used one during firing. Any suggestions on how to keep them from sticking? Is there something I can do to the wire? A coating? i did try putting the beads in the freezer to see if it would help but it did not make a difference.
Mark C.
1st clean off all the glaze in the holes before firing .Or do not let glaze in the holes to begin with. Glaze will stick to anything. If you want as a extra precuation you could coat the wire with kiln wash with extra alumni hydrate in it -a light coating and let iot dry-that coating will take up some space as well. The trick is to clean the holes better before firing-scrape them out with a small tool like a dental pick.
