Posey Bacopoulos
Does anyone know what Laguna (western) clay body is good for majolica????
liambesaw
Well I think traditionally majolica is a tin glazed earthenware, I've seen mostly a red body. So maybe aim for a red earthenware? I think most people refer to majolica as just tin with painted glazes, not sure the body is too important since it's all covered in thick white glaze
Posey Bacopoulos
Thanks but yes body is important because glaze can shiver or flake off after firing. I have a clay body that works but I am going to work someplace new and need a clay body from Laguna.
liambesaw
Well in that case we don't have enough information. What is your glaze recipe, what cone does it fire to
Min
Not trying to complicate things but if you are open to a different West Coast supplier the D'Arcy Redart clay from Tacoma Clay Art Center is a lovely clay to work with. Very smooth and forgiving. Deb's clear fits. A friend of mine uses it with slips, bisqued to 06 and glaze fired to 04, the red earthenware pots in her gallery are D'Arcy's. The body was devoloped by D'Arcy Margesson and comes with or without mica, he uses it for both majolica and slip decoration.
