debsboon
I need to replace my broken kiln shelves and I wondered if I could cut vermiculite sheet to size and use this for the shelves (as would save me money). I now vermiculite can withstand high temp, but wondered if anyone had any experience with this. Thanks.
Bob Coyle
Vermiculite will expand, then sag and melt at high kiln temperatures. It is basically a mica that expands with heat, and not very strong. No way it could be used as a kiln shelf... or it already would be used. Mark C.
No you cannot use it for kiln temps.Buy some new shelves. Mark Now that its April fools day I will add that will work fine. Now thats its April second I suggest you do not use it and get some new shelves. Mark
