seancisse
Hi, I would like to try to "smoke" a piece. So I think (maybe it's wrong ) there's 2 way: I bisque fire, then I smoke fire, then I glaze with transparent glaze to keep the smoke effect I bisque fier, i fire earthware or stoneware, then I smoke fire Friendly advice are welcome
NewDominionBlues
I'm no expert, but I think you will want to bisque fire, then just smoke the piece. If you fire it again, hot enough to glaze it on top of the smoke, it will probably burn off the carbon. So it would look as if you had not smoked it. Others will probably know better. Chris Campbell
If you look at the top of the page and hit the Ceramic Arts Daily link you will find a ton of information on this under "pit firing". http://ceramicartsdaily.org/ceramic-arts-daily-site-search/?cx=001510309991982260494%3Afn9s4gctyhs&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=pit+firing&sa.x=0&sa.y=0 Many other techniques use smoke to enhance the pieces ...enjoy! neilestrick
Bisque, then smoke. It's the only way it will work. If you refire, the carbon will burn off. If you fire higher than bisque then try to smoke, it will not take in the carbon.
seancisse
Thanks for your quick reply. NewDominionBlues, Neilestrick, I agree with you, that's what I was thinking, but was not sure Chris, I'll check the link, thanks
Mark369
Bisque, Low fire ^06 with clear glaze then Pit fire with dense material like saw dust, the clear glaze will suck in carbon. Have done it.
