MamaSher
I am a new by...I am looking for suggestions and people's experience in using commercial underglazes and/or majolica glazes that work best fired at cone 6. I like colors and am looking for glazes that will maintain vivid colors. Typically I paint designs on my bisque pieces. I have experience with stroke and coat and with amaco majolica glazes and neither seem to come out exactly like I want.. Any suggestions? What about spectrum underglazes for cone 6...anyone have any experience. I would love to see pictures of finished product. Thanks in advance
neilestrick
Speedball underglazes hold up well at cone 6. The only problem colors are the royal blue and red. They work fine for small areas, but if they tend to flux out a bit and can cause the glaze to melt funny/bubble if applied too thick.
Claypple
I used Stroke and Coat and it looked very bright. But: 1) I fired to ^5, not ^6 2) Not all Stroke and Coat are meant for high firing. Look at the bottel. Some of them say "Higher cone: color fading " (or something like that) On my experience, the Stroke and Coat are the easiest and brightest glazes to use in your case. Also: apply a thicker coat!
Denice
Is there a reason that you are wanting to do majolica at C 6? Why not work at C04 where you have no trouble maintaining the intensity and depth of color. Denice
Chris Campbell
Another factor could be your clear glaze if you are using one ... They very often change the color of the underglazes.
