Marcia Selsor
Make some terra sig. Color it if that is what you are after. Using a Frit could flux. Not great choice. Marcia

perkolator
make the above suggestions (slip/engobe/terra sig, etc) or even an underglaze. they usually don't stick in my experience. Underglaze can be made from equal parts clay, flux, and colorant.
neilestrick
make the above suggestions (slip/engobe/terra sig, etc) or even an underglaze. they usually don't stick in my experience. Underglaze can be made from equal parts clay, flux, and colorant. Commercial underglazes work well, too, although some may stick a little bit. I use Speedball brand, and the blue and red are known to melt out a little more than the rest.
Idaho Potter
I, too, use commercial underglazes which I apply before the bisque firing. If it seems a color sticks, I bisque the pot upside down. Never had one stick during glaze firing--yet. Intend to start using terra sig with color to seal and finish pot bottoms in the future. Thanks to whoever posted that hint ( was it Marcia?), 'cause it was a dandy! Shirley
