glazenerd
Done with porcelain, finalizing stoneware, in the middle of frit ware: so now I need to study earthenware and terra cotta. Looking for Recipes, links to recipes: do not include your private recipes. Need to start tearing apart the basic formula limits and create a database. Thank you for the help. Pieter Mostert
Here are all the recipes under earthenware on Glazy: https://glazy.org/search?view_option=tiles&subcategory=2&category=1&page=1 Several are casting bodies, and at least one is frit ware, but most should be what you're looking for. You can also find a bunch of low-fire clay bodies at the Alfred Grinding Room. I haven't checked how much overlap there is with the ones on Glazy. neilestrick
The simplest terra cotta body: 80-90% Redart, 10-20% Ball Clay. Add Barium Carb to prevent scumming, approximately 1%, but may need far less or more.
Magnolia Mud Research
Tom, My memory believes that Daniel Rhodes' book "Clay and Glazes for the Potter" contains a respectable section on low fire clay bodies. https://archive.org/details/clayandclazesfor006089mbp This would give you some insight into the mid 20th century versions of clay formulas. Also look for brick and flower pot formulas outside of the studio pottery domain. lt
glazenerd
Pieter, that was a gold mine- Ty. Ty Neil. LT- I have that book, used it in part to research " historic" formulation, good choice.
