Merk0331
I've used a burn out kiln for some years and it recently..... burned out. *cymbal crash It had two panels with the elements inside and sealed with a cement. From my understanding, burnout kilns have elements that are sealed this was so that the fumes do not harm the elements. The kiln was old and there were cracks in the cement so I suspect that this was the cause of the problem. I bought cement and thought that I could temporarily splice the element together and re-coat it. The element was too badly burned out to attempt repairs so I bought new panels with the elements in it (not sealed). Now, I'm not sure about the cements. I read somewhere that a specific cement is used. My cement was bought from a ceramics supply store and repacked into a smaller container and says only "kiln cement" on it. I can't afford to mess up the element panels so thought I would ask the experts if this cement would work and if anyone would have any suggestions. Thanks from a new member! perkolator
Try ITC-100, it's a refractory coating that you can apply on elements. Never used it on elements personally, but it's good stuff for coating most types of kilns/forges as an additional protective and insulative layer. neilestrick
I would not put regular kiln cement on elements.
