ronfire
I would love a new kiln but a good deal came along with 2 kilns and assorted tools glazes etc so 1 will hold off on the new kiln until the Canadian dollar is better or upgrade to a controller. Looking of advise on upgrading to a kiln controller. I have an old Skutt 231 and am just about to purchase a used Skutt 1027. The nice thing is the 1027 is the new version of the 231 so it is the same size with mostly the same parts. I make mostly stoneware with underglaze and clear on top fired to ^6 What do you like for add on controllers ? Single or multiple zone? Is it worth the hassle to make the controller work both kilns using plugs? Might just keep the old kiln a sitter for bisque at ^04. No plans to fire both kilns at the same time. What distance should I keep the kilns apart? They will be against concrete walls with is nice. I will be connecting both kilns to a vent system. Sure is a lot of questions for getting a 2nd kiln. oldlady
separate them enough that you have working space around each one. you might be loading one while another is cooling so leave more space than you think. you will be handling shelves, posts and pots, make sure there is a good workflow around each one. lucky you with concrete walls and i hope floor. ronfire
Thanks, good point for working room when 1 kiln is hot. Yes there is concrete floor as well as 5' concrete wall and only 20' from my electrical panel in the shop.
