CarlCravens
My electric kilns are in a detached garage on the back end of the property. I'm looking for an affordable smoke alarm to put in the garage with a wireless monitor/alarm to keep in the house. Does anyone have experience with something like this? Tyler Miller
Where I live, the cable/internet/cell phone company Rogers offers something like what you're looking for. https://www.rogers.com/web/content/smart-home-monitoring-hardware-new If Rogers does it up here, there are 5 guys who do it in the US for half the cost with twice the options. schmism
baby monitor? I mean all you want to do is "broadcast" the beeping of the local smoke alarm.... i think thats the cheapest way to go.
CarlCravens
Okay, the Nest monitors are cool, but at a hundred bucks a pop, that's a little steep. But I think a baby monitor is a little too low-tech. What I *want* is very much like the Nest alarms... but I'd be looking at about $400-500 to replace all the alarms in my house and put one in the garage. (And $250 to get the thermostat that links to the alarms and shuts off the furnace on a CO2 warning.)
nicolesy
I personally think that the Nest option is probably best. They're pricey, but considering what they do I think it's worth the added peace of mind. Now that the Nest smoke detectors are back on the market, my husband and I plan on replacing all of ours in the house (and I'll be adding one in the garage studio as well). We're big fans of "smart homes"; we already have a Nest thermostat, WeMo light switches, and Hue light bulbs throughout the house.
