George Rodriguez Workshop: An Ornamental Stance

Built from slabs and decorated in sprigged ornaments, a figure emerges.  This guardian is playful, fierce, and personal.  It holds our history and marks our present.

Explore the rich possibilities of sprig decoration while creating a guardian figure in this two-day, hands-on ceramic sculpture workshop. Think Year of the Tiger, terracotta warrior or future friends. Working from photographs or reference drawings we’ll use basic slab and modeling techniques to make and assemble the sculptural work. Plaster molds will help with some basic construction and forming. We will also make one-part plaster press molds to embellish our sculptures and bring texture to the surface. Previous clay experience recommended.
