Mirrored-K-Studio
I am trying to mix my own cone 6 electric shino. I really enjoy the ones that Amaco makes but I have been unsuccessful in finding it in quantity, ie. gallons or dry. I have mixed a few Shinos that work well in reduction cone 10 but their bases dont really make sense at cone 6. Can anyone help me with a suggested base to start? Callie Beller Diesel
Cone ten reduction shinos are different animals entirely from what Amaco sells. The effect you’re looking for is an opaque satin glaze that breaks and pools over texture. A base glaze that contains some lithium or spodumene will encourage that effect. If you go to Glazy, Nutmeg (I think originally from John Britt, but don’t quote me on that) fits the bill. There’s a few variations on there. You could easily play around with the colourants to get different effects.
