girlpotter7
Can I use the Bentonite that is my property's soil for making unglazed ceramic pots? If so, what would the recipe be for incorporating it, i.e. the ration of bentonite to water? I would be wheel throwing. Thanks.
Piedmont Pottery
The short answer in no, you would probably not be able to directly throw a bentonite water mixture. You would need to add quite a bit of ball clay to make it anywhere near being able to throw, and you would likely have issues with slow drying and a lot of shrinkage.
