High Design Posted October 13, 2021 Report Posted October 13, 2021 HIGH DESIGNDecember 11, 2021 - February 13, 2022 Ferrin Contemporary, North Adams, MA About the Exhibition: The legalization of cannabis has opened up new possibilities for artists and designers to reimagine the material landscape of the post-prohibition era. What does cannabis culture look like in the age of legalization? How can makers craft a new relationship to marijuana that is historically and politically aware but also contemporary, responding to culture as it is shifting in real-time? Presented in conjunction with the fifth anniversary of the Massachusetts Marijuana Legalization Initiative, High Design is an exhibition and proposition for the handmade. Showcasing pipes and bongs, ashtrays and lighters, High Design is where high art meets thoughtful design. High Design is a project of Emma Franco-Toner and Sarah Margolis-Pineo, independent curators. Working across media, High Design cultivates conversation, community building, and entrepreneurship related to the legal cannabis industry. The intent of the inaugural High Design exhibition is to highlight beautiful and utilitarian works of craft and design that are redefining the identity of post-prohibition culture. The exhibition is an independent project presented by Ferrin Contemporary, a global leader in contemporary ceramics. The gallery is located on the MASS MoCA campus in the Berkshires, a region leading innovation and entrepreneurship in the cannabis industry. A High Design Shop online platform will be launched to accompany the exhibition.
