Dipping Glaze -- drying to remix

I mixed two laguna dipping glazes -- 10 lb dry bag each. The glazes never got the right consistency and didn't fire at all correctly. I contacted Laguna (manufacturer) and they instructed me to leave the tops off of the buckets and let it dry out. I failed to ask if I could skim the gel-water layer off the top or if there are important chemicals in the fluid that needs to remain once it is all dried. Can you provide any guidance? I learned these particular glazes can only be mixed right before use and should not be done in batches.

All glazes have soluble ingredients, so you should never remove standing water from the bucket, other than through evaporation.
