After I trim a pot I inscribe the date on the bottom.

Thanks for the measurements, Sputty. I'll give it a go. I've been having some of the same issues as glazenerd. I try to take my hands away from the pot in the direction of the rotation.

I'm practicing cylinders again. Can someone give me a height to aim for when throwing with 1kg / 2.2lb of clay? I need something to aim for, even if it's difficult. I'll set a gauge up so I can keep trying to hit that height.
Incidentally, here in the UK we call this # a hash sign. I still find it confusing when people refer to it as a pound sign, which is one of these: £.

I like this idea. I've had some trouble throwing and getting the shapes I wanted, so I've gone back to to basics too.
It might be useful if you upload sketches showing what kind of shapes you want. That way people can cut their pots in half and see how they compare.

Good point. I have been writing the clay name if it's one I don't normally use, but doing it consistently would be a better idea. A lot of my foot rings are quite small, so there isn't much space. I might be able to use the trimming date and then a number for each pot trimmed on that date. That way I could keep a log in my notebook.
