On the ipad, go to the bottom and in the bottom left there is a button to use desktop or full version, this will give you the options to do the things you need to do to set an avatar like people are talking about above. then once your done you can go back to mobile the same way.

Mobile version doesn't offer options at all on mine ..... Thanks, I'll stop worrying about it ......
