Callie Beller Diesel
So I came into some free materials from a potter who was moving across country recently. The only item I don't have any experience with is this dark ball clay. Does anyone make a nifty slip with it that has a certain effect? Does it play nicely in clay bodies? Anything to be aware of health and safety wise? Things to watch out for? Things it's really good for? It was free. Did I mention it was free? Ps, I have already checked Digitalfire, and all they say is its a plastic ball clay from Tennessee.
TJR
Might just be organic materials in there. Throw some in a bisqued bowl and fire it up to your glaze temp. It may turn out to be quite light in colour. TJR.
Marcia Selsor
I had some Bandy Black ball clay about 40 years ago. As TJR mentions, it could have lots of organic material. My Bandy Black fluxed the glazes a lot and it fired out white.. Marcia
