Pam S
We've been using a cone 6 glaze called White Satin. It was a matte that had a soft, almost waxy feel. It is now coming out almost shiney and crackled. It's pretty, but not the matte we want. Does anyone have a recipe to fit the bill?
bciskepottery
Just out of curiosity, what do you think has changed to cause the glaze to behave differently? Is this a new batch of glaze? Is it a commercial glaze or home recipe? Were any materials subsituted in the recipe? Were there any changes to the kiln (e.g., new elements) or firing process? Providing the glaze recipe would be helpful in trying to provide suggestions or understanding the problem. Anyhow, here is a White Satin that came from a workshop conducted by John Hesselberth, co-author of Mastering Cone 6 Glazes. For those familiar with the book, the base is Glossy Base 1. Feldspar G200, 20% Frit Ferro 3134, 20% Talc, 11.5% Wollastonite, 10% Kaolin EPK, 20% Silica, 18.5% Total, 100% Tin Oxide, 5% With the change from G200 to G200HP, you will need to adjust the recipe unless you have a supply of G200. This is a "refrigerator" white, semimatte.
