TomD
Hi all, I'm looking into making a lamp shade out of ceramic and was wondering how thin does the ceramic layer need to be for light to pass through it? And from this how strong/durable would this be? Any help appreciated, thanks Tom
Chris Campbell
A translucent porcelain would be what you are looking for ... light glows through it when fired to maturity. Thick for me would be 1/8" but others might have had success thicker. It would be strong ... the durable depends on the owner.
Colby Charpentier
Just to clarify, this is a property of some porcelain bodies. It's imperative that you're using a body formulated to achieve this effect.
Marcia Selsor
Frost will pass light at 1/8" maybe more. Marcia
