dawneckhardt
Has anyone ever used raku glazes for regular 06/05 firing and if so what are the results like?
Benzine
Well, I haven't intentionally done it, but one time, I didn't get enough reduction with some of the glazes. The Lusterous Copper by Amaco, was more of a dark blue green, in oxidation. That makes sense, as copper oxidizes green. The other colors I use, don't look a whole lot different, other than the lack of the "smokey" spots.
neilestrick
They just come out their plain un-reduced colors, typically green for the flashy copper glazes, with no metallic effects. For glazes that don't flash in the post firing reduction you won't see much difference.
Guest JBaymore
Because they are often formulated for fast up firing cycles and no slow cooling cycle, they can sometimes end up being runny in a slow firing to the end point temperature that they typically reach in a raku firing. Remember the concept of heat work. It is not JUST about end point temperature. If they are "right" for rapid heating up to X degrees....... they are likey overfired at slow heating up to that same X degrees. best, ..........................john
