asunta
Several years ago I threw and bisque fired a very large pot. During a momentary lapse of reason, I painted it with acrylics. I now wish to make amends and remove the paint. I want to fire the pot again to remove the paint, but don't know what would happen if I did. Another potter said it would explode in the kiln. oldlady
why would it explode? sometimes people do not ask enough questions when they hear something. contact a paint company technician and ask what happens to acrylic paint in a house fire. perkolator
the paint will simply burn off. i've done it several times in a gas kiln, also done epoxy too. I dunno if I would do this in an electric kiln due to the burnoff settling on the soft brick and elements. it will likely leave a scum afterward that will need to get scrubbed off. your other option is to sandblast it off, but that can eat away at the clay. why not just make a new pot?
