Deb Evans
Maam- there are so many possibiities, where to start. I've never liked the "coat" that glaze provides so to get more of the actual surface i've always watered down the glazes , and always seem to keep some of the surface glaze free - love the "rockness" of the surface. Over the years I've realize most of my work fits best in raku or soda firing. so some suggestions: in high fire - you can use stains and than thin wash of a clear or light transparent glaze to "fix" the stains. wood fire- firing provides the surface sodafire- use stains and firing provides the surface raku- metalic glazes and unglazed are is black = wonderful suface and colors. search the web, read clay books and enjoy.
