Cmonhk
New to ceramics and thought I would make ornaments for xmas presents. I'm not sure how to go about firing them since they are all ovals and can't be placed directly on the kiln floor. The ornaments are about 4"x5" and have large decorative slices cut out of the sides and a hole in the top for ornament hangers. My friend suggested hanging them in the air with a metal wire thru the slices, but I know you will still be able to see where the metal wire stuck to the glaze. I would really appreciate any creative suggestions on this. Thanks.
bciskepottery
You could sit the ornament on stilts. Post firing, you might need to do a small clean up with a Dremel or other tool to eliminate any points where the ornament sat on the stilt. atanzey
If you have wire that will withstand the kiln temps, use it through the hole that you will be inserting an ornament hanger into. Just clean the glaze out first with a Q-tip or something. You'll want to make sure that hole is clean and open anyway, so you can get the hanger through.
