birchhill
The second firing of the kiln went much better! This time I started with fire out in front of kiln and after a couple hours of that slowly moved it into the fire box. Spent about 8 hrs this time getting to the target temperature instead of only 1.5-2 hrs getting to 06 last time. The kiln is definitely showing some signs of wear so I welded up a cage around it it to allow bricks to move around with out causing a collapse. This time nothing cracked and I pulled a couple pieces while glowing and dropped them into a 5 gal bucket of pine needles for the black finish Thanks again for all the suggestions and tips on kiln use!. Next test will be trying the use of glazes.
JohnnyK
Looks like you inadvertently veered into the mystic world of Raku with the pine needle action on the black vases JK
