Runny Transparent Glaze

Help needed :)

I'm trying to develop a SLIGHTLY runny transparent glaze for my mishima work but I am struggling!

Does anyone have experience with adjusting transparent stoneware glazes (fired to 1260 C in an electric kiln) to make them slightly runny?

Any help would be hugely appreciated...

Hi Alicja and welcome.

Alumina stiffens glazes, so to make them runnier you need to take out some of it. I'm guessing your glaze has kaolin in it, I would try reducing that in the glaze. Mix up a couple hundred grams of the base with 12% or so less kaolin then dip a tall test tile half way into the glaze (with lots of room for the glaze to run and a scrap bisque piece underneath it), then add kaolin in 2% additions until you get up to 2% less than the original glaze had. Somewhere in there should be runny enough. Might want to check for crazing if you take out a lot of it.
