wood fire clays

I would like to do a wood firing, however I was wondering if there was a clay body that would vitrify in a wood firing.

Just like any other firing method, it depends on you firing to the right cone for the clay you use. My favorite commercial clay for an anagama fired to cone 10-12 is Laguna's B-mix Woodfire.

yes depending on the temp you fire to. I have fired to bisque in a wood fire kiln and 1300degC. I find clay bodies with iron in gives the best results, especially when the ash catches on the wear creating its own glaze. I personally like to use a clay body called RSF a good all rounder behaves well in salt firing. Can create wonderfull skin tones at high temps. Maybe start with a raku clay body if your not sure of temp.

Did you mean a wood 'kiln' firing or a wood 'open pit' firing? Porcelain and stoneware can be fired in wood kilns and can reach cone 10 or more?

 

So I think you should be a little more specific in your question. Many clay suppliers can give you specifics about the clay bodies that they offer including the maximum cone temperatures and which clay bodies are formulated for the different firing methods; check with them.
