  1. I am the proud new owner of my first kiln, a Duncan DK 1029-1! I am in the process of figuring out what I need to do to get it home safely and bring it back to life (building a dedicated shed, hiring an electrician to properly install a 240 outlet, etc.) It has had very little use and the bricks and elements look new, but it was stored in a garage and the outside of the kiln and control panel look pretty bad. I am thinking I will have to replace the control panel (or, get professional help to do so). I'd like to get it going again as a kiln sitter, no fancy electronics. I am hoping I haven't bitten off more than I can chew, but the price was right. I'm happy to have any advice, but my intial question is what is the best way to safely haul a kiln? Luckily it doesn't have to go far, but it does have to ride in the back of a pick-up truck up and down some of Oregon's infamously bad gravel roads.
  2. I’m in need of someone who can match or come close to matching Duncan’s discontinued Courtyard “Harvest Plains” glaze. This has been my go to glaze for 10 years and i’m almost out. I live on and island and don’t have access to glaze ingredients. Any glaze mixing experts out there who can help me match it?
  3. Sorry if there is a similar thread already… I’m new to firing full stop! I just purchased a Duncan Teachers Plus and was running a high fire test today. I started at 10am this morning on Manual setting, High Fire and set it for 6.5 hours with no idea how long it should take. I only have two glazed items in there just for the sake of it and placed cones 9 and 10 on the bottom and top shelves so they are visible from the peep holes. After 11.5 hours and the cones are still standing. I placed a thermocouple in the top a little while ago and it was reading 1111 degrees. Half an hour later it was 1100 - I assume because the temp has dropped outside as well. I wonder if there is something or multiple things that I should have done differently? Maybe I should just use it to bisque if it won’t go higher? Thanks in advance…
