Lucille Oka
So if I have a mold that tends to fill unevenly, are extra sprues a good idea? What kind of a mold are you talking about? One piece, two piece, three piece with or without a spare? How is it filling unevenly? What exactly do you mean? Are you topping off?
BeckyH
This particular piece is a two-part mold for a mug. The handle has a complete loop in it, and I'm afraid that if I use a regular pour into the body of the mug (my usual practice) the top of the loop won't fill properly and there will either be a gap or bubbles. A separate sprue for the handle would be easy enough to manage, and easier than making a separate mold for the handle.

A sprue should work but make it a little wide, air is being trapped in the handle void. If you make the molds and embed the model, next time try placing the model with the handle at a more downward angle, still with a sprue, but you must cleverly place your spare. However making a separate handle mold will always assure that the handle will cast properly.
