SUS
Would really appreciate a formula for a good 'clear' clear ^6 glaze to use with Standard's 308 Brookland Red clay. Ones I've tried have either been milky or crazed.
bciskepottery
These are two clears from a Michael Sherrill workshop; I've not used either but have seen the Leah's Chun Clear and it seemed clear and did not craze at ^6. Tom
Hi SUS The clay you are using is unknown to me but I will assume that it is made of mud and has some sand in it. I have found that any glaze that I find or are given that was developed for unknown clay usually need adjustment to work. If the glaze crazes you may need to add some silica or talc or any number of expansion elements. The glaze listed below seems to work well on a white stoneware body here on the west coast. Give it a try. It might be easier to adjust the glaze that is clear but crazes then to continue to look for glazes that may or may not work. There is a good article by Robin Hopper the explains glaze adjustment in ceramics daily. His advice is sound. good luck
