Moving house with kiln (on wheels)

Recommended Posts

We are moving house and my Skutt KM827 kiln will need to go in the removals truck. Any advice as to how to prepare it for the move? It’s already on a wheeled stand so my initial thought was to strap it together and just move it…

many thanks for any help!

Nope. You do not want to move it with the floor at the bottom. It'll get cracked. Remove the control box and lid, unstack it, then stack the rings on a sheet of styrofoam. Then put another sheet of styrofoam on top, then the floor. Then another sheet of foam, then the lid. Wrap it up with plastic wrap. Definitely oversee the moving of the kiln, as movers don't have a clue about how fragile the bricks are. Make sure they only use the handles of the rings, never grab the bricks or they'll break out the element grooves. No carts, no hand trucks, etc.
