You'll learn to source and harvest these materials, and even utilize locally-sourced bamboo for beautiful, personalized brush handles. This workshop is particularly enriching for ceramic artists, offering the opportunity to explore the exciting possibilities of clay through the lens of custom brushmaking. Hands-on practice: Master the techniques of crafting diverse brush heads and attaching them to unique handles. Unleash the expressive potential of your handmade brushes: Experiment with various media, including alternative process photography, ceramic mark-making, lithography, watercolor, and more. Workshop Details: Materials Fee:$65 per student, payable to the instructor at the start of the workshop.This fee covers all materials provided for individual use. Students will make a handful of brushes during this workshop. Materials Offered: A diverse range of animal hair fibers, including (but not limited to) black and white goat, squirrel, cow, boar, horsetail and mane, raccoon, fox, coyote, deer, and other natural fibers. Fee: $210 member/$225 non-member This workshop is open to all skill levels: beginner - intermediate. This will take place on Tuesday, March 5th from 12:30-1:30pm. Instructor: Sarah Austin Sarah Ann, born in Flint, Michigan, received a BFA in Visual Communications and Studio Art from The University of Michigan and a MFA in Studio Art focusing in All forms of Photography, Sculpture, and Papermaking at the University of Alabama. She has taught at universities and community centers since 2012 and has exhibited her Art in various group and solo exhibitions throughout nationally including: the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Birmingham Museum of Art, Flint Institute of Art, Detroit Institute of Art, Oklahoma Museum of Modern Art, Gadsden Museum of Art, Bradley University, Un. of Michigan Museum of Art to name a few. Sarah Ann has received grants and fellowships from Ohio Arts council, FotoFocus, Society for Photographic education, AL Arts council, University of Michigan, University of Alabama, Greater Flints Arts Council, United Arts Council and more.
