Making a moveable top for a wood fired kiln

Hello,

For building a kiln alike Steve Mills Philosopher's kiln I am thinking of using bricks to build the the top of the kiln instead of big refractory shelves as these a quite expensive and I might have 300 bricks  remaining depending if I find a way of making the kiln smokeless or not. I read from Mel Jackobsen about a lightly curved flat top and I am also thinking about making a top similar to a brick door with a steel structure. I might also have some ceramic fiber arriving soon but I do not know the quantity yet. What have been your solutions to this ?
