Kathy B.
I have a Gare kiln Model 1822 and one of the 5 manual switches is bad. Have not been able to find a replacement switch online. Does anyone know if they are still available?
neilestrick
Those old ceramic block light switches are impossible to find. As far as I know they are not made any more. From what I've read you can replace them with a commercial grade switch. Is the switch running 120 volts or 240 volts through it? If it's 240 volts, you'll need to get a double pole switch. Search 'Spec grade 20A 2 pole light switch' and you'll get a lot of possibilities. You want commercial grade, extra heavy duty, and the highest ambient operating temp you can find. Hubbell makes some that are rated to 75C/167F. THIS would probably work. Before you buy anything, call Evenheat Kiln and see what they recommend as a replacement for the old ceramic block switches. They used them extensively in their kilns in the past, and may be able to recommend a specific model.
