  1. I did a couple urns last week and I loved the outcome just one side was gray and dull. I decided to experiment a little bit and I added some acrylic paint to the surface. I think it looks really nice! I just wonder if there is anything I can add to the surface to protect it or coat the paint?
  2. Thank you for that! Robert Piepenburg was my professor in colloge for ceramics and design. He always made a point to teach the importance of keeping a clean work space, clean tools and a clean studio. I've learned with experience that by keeping all aspects of my work space organized and clean really does help to keep the vigor a drive to create strong. I think when throwing same is true. Keeping the pots clean gives them strength.
  3. Awesome thank you for everything I will try all that and also working using less water
  4. I have a really weird question I hope someone can answer. Okay so I tend to use a lot of water when I'm throwing on the wheel and it can get really messy. So I use old t-shirts and towels to constantly clean up my hands, arm, wheel... Anyway my question is; what would a good way be to wash the clay infested linens? I don't think putting them in my washer would be a good idea since I dont want to clog my pipes with Clay?
  5. I'm looking to buy a used Kiln and have been looking on craigslist. I found one that is about the size I'm looking for called an Excaliber Orton, which I've never herd of. I tried googling it and I get nothing. Here's the link to the ad, if anyone can give me any advice on what this is and if it is a good deal? I just don't wanna end up wasting my time and money. https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/art/6077505415.html Thanks!
  6. Thanks for all the info! I'm glad I didn't continue doing that. Yeah we actually had a problem with our outside water pipe just the other day and I think it may have been related to it. Luckily it wasn't a major issue and we had it resolved the next day. I'll look into getting a sink trap for sure now. Good to know, thanks again!
  7. I have a question about letting my clay go down my drains? I recently started working on my wheel more and I usually clean out my splash pan outside with the hose but sometimes I change the water in my bucket in my bathtub. Since there are sometimes a lot of clay in the bucket I'm just wondering if that is safe to be going down my drain? I know I remember my clay studio in college always had sink traps in them but I'm just wondering if something like that is really necessary working on a small scale. If It were to be a problem what could happen? Thanks! Jeff
  8. So an update on the wheel. I will be going to pick it up Tuesday. I'm pretty excited. Its a 5 year old wheel, but in very good condition. And yes it has the 14" wheel head Mark C. One question I did want to ask you guys. I'm planning on going alone to pick it up. The lady whom I'm buying it from told me she cannot help me lift it. Do you think it could be lifted by one person and put into my truck? Thanks again everyone! and I hope to be posting more on here now that I'll be getting my little studio up and running again.
  9. Thank you for the feedback. I am going to look at it on Sunday. I will probably buy it. She said 760OBO So I wonder what I should ask for then? I will ask her if she will take 500 and hopfully end up spending no more than 600. Then I will go buy my professional Skutt wheel when I start making my 6 figures from all the beautiful pottery I will making. ;P
  10. I'm currently in the market to purchase a second hand potters wheel. I've been looking on Craigslist daily and finally today came across something that I would consider buying. It is a BRENT C Model and looked to be in good condition. They are asking 750 OBO for it... how does that sound? This is my first time attempting to buy something like this second hand so I'm a little clueless. Is it worth spending that much money on something like this or should I just go ahead and spend the extra bucks to get what I really want, which is a SKUTT wheel? BTW I do like Brent. They are what I learned on. I've just heard a lot of people raving about how good the Skutts are, and I just want the best. The advice will help me... Thanks in advance.
