I am a paraprofessional potter in the wunnerful small state of Arkansas. In my home studio, Get Real Pottery, I fire to cone 6.5 electric.
But I teach at the Arkansas Arts Center Museum School, which has a cone 10 gas reduction kiln, a small soda kiln, a raku station and electric kilns that are used for everything from bisque firing to low fire glazes to long, slow sculpture firing. AAC is the best-deal place in the state to learn about clay, because of the generous allowance of time and access to materials the students get for their fee — which includes firing; teachers bend over backward to help their students; famous ceramic artists visit for workshops. I am really lucky to be part of the AAC community.
