robo got a reaction from PeterH in Cone 6 Reduction Electric Kiln Firing in Saggars
    Hi all,
I found the book by @JolandavdG confusing on one point, namely she writes that you need to fire no higher than 400ºC degrees to turn red earthenware black, but I have found (and Tony Hansen confirms, see: https://digitalfire.com/oxide/feo) that you need at least 900ºC to turn red iron oxide (Fe2O3) to black iron oxide (FeO).
Anyway, pleased with my results so far (all same clay, same terra sigillata, same firing temp, and no glaze). I used wood shavings & hay from a local pet shop to achieve reduction, and sealed the lid on my saggar with kiln wash.
