Software For Glazes

A few questions. Currently I'm using GlazeChem and find it fine but I'm concerned whether it will work with a Win7 OS. I'll operate it on a older Computer with XP if necessary. Any opinions on Glazechem on Win7 if you've got it installed?? Any newer glaze softwares you'd recommend for Win7??

Not sure if you're looking to stay with a free solution, but I've been using Insight ($60) for years on mac, and my experience has been that they are on top of OS updates very quickly. They were on PC and mac out of the gate, and it looks as if they support Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7:

I think it's more expensive if you want the online tools and regular updates.

I'm with Sherman on this one. Insight is a GREAT package.

 

I've literally been involved in computerized glaze calc since its inception (was one of the first to develop the software commercially back in the early 80s)....... but since I want to be a potter not a programmer.....I eventually stopped work on that to devote my tiome to making claywork. Let others run with the ball. I've been teaching glaze calc at the college level since the 70's and still do at NHIA (nhia.edu). A "required text" for my current students (in the required course) is Insight. Tony Hansen (developer of Insight) is a great guy and VERY responsive to questions and suggestions. Insight is bulletproof. A Level II subscription to Insight is WELL worth the cost.

You need to know if you are getting win7 64 bit or 32 bit. Many older programs will not run on the 64 bit win7.

 

 

I use insight (also wrote my own program for glaze calculation) and think it is the best one out there not only for the software itself but for the database that is on digitalfire and the support you get from Tony Hansen. He does regular upgrades and I have had no problem with it at all on win7 64 bit.

I could never get use to glazemaster (I think because it was more Mac than PC) but the support you get from the authors is priceless.

However if you want freeware then any glaze calculator that works with excel would do fine on any windows version as long as you have excel.
