solarnestling
I'm using this 016 recipe: 3269 43.6 3134 26.3 Lithium Carb 9.9 EPK 6.3 Silica 14 Bentonite 3.5 I'm using this on my own backyard clay which has a good amount of iron. Yes i know what you're all thinking .. but i am replicating ancient near eastern bronze age forms and love the freshly excavated look. I can get a good result tinting with black stain but i am having less success with experiments toward white. Ideally i'd like to get a tan/ sun-bleached-desert-sand white .. but trying variations of Tin ox 2-5%, bone ash, Zircopax 7-14% i get pink. Any ideas? Are you using all three of these together? Is the pink the color of the clay coming through, or the color of the glaze? Either the tin or the zircopax on it's own should opacify the glaze and go totally white. Why cone 016? Thought about just mixing a simple cone 04 clear?: Frit 3124 90% EPK 10%

Is the pink the color of the clay coming through, or the color of the glaze? This is what i'm trying to figure out. The fact that these whiteners are going so blatantly pink leads me to suspect the iron Why cone 016? Thought about just mixing a simple cone 04 clear?: The more complex stuff with lots of handles and larger shapes do better in the cooler realms (again i'm taking my cues from bronze age specs). I've tried up to 06 but was trying to see how cool i could get away with.
