Emwhid
I’m new to firing, and honestly have never fired anything before. I have a bunch of the potters choice glazes I’d like to use. I understand they fire to ^6 but my question is when I program my kiln, should I be doing a slow, medium, or fast firing. Do I need to hold these glazes at a certain temperature? Mullins Pottery
If I understand correctly as long as the pieces are bisque fires prior to the glaze firing you should be good to fire as quickly or as slowly as you like. As far as the hold at the end of the firing it depends entirely on the glaze. If you’re not sure on a particular glaze, fire several test tiles or mugs to make sure. As always test test test! Just FYI, there is a Facebook Group that discusses these glazes: AMACO Cone 5/6 Exchange (just plug the title into FB search). There is a wealth of info on all aspects of the subject.
