Aimee Posted February 13, 2017 Report Share Posted February 13, 2017 Hi I have not used a forum before so not to sure what I'm doing but i need some advice about repairing a potters wheel. I bought a second hand Potters wheel yesterday but it didn't seem to like the journey to my house and won't work! Its a Alleger 1/2 hp apron 25 years old plus. The guys we got it from was a full time potter and a wonderful genuine gentleman, it was a pleasure to meet him and i don't think there was any problems with it previously but it hasn't been properly used for over ten year. When we tested it was working fine but unfortunately when we got it home it worked for 30 second and now wants do anything. Thankfully i have a very useful dad currently staying with me who has taken it apart. We think it is the fuse to the control unit (B100 with 10 terminals). it is a 20 x 5 mm5 amp fuse but we replaced it with a quick blow fuse and it just blew it. Any help would be great! Min Posted February 13, 2017 Report Share Posted February 13, 2017 Sounds like its shorting out. Check wires, connections for fraying / bare wires touching. You should be able to see the arcing marks if exposed (look for soot or black or discoloured/pitted metal) or smell where it happened. Your Dad will likely need a multimeter to check unless it's obvious where the short is. If you are unlucky it's in the motor but chances are it's one of the old wires got twisted while transporting it. Re the fuse, replacing it with a fastblow fuse might not have proven anything, still likely a short. Check the specs on the old fuse. Hi and welcome to these forums.
