hansen Posted May 14, 2010 Report Share Posted May 14, 2010 Hauksbee: Crackle indicates the glaze is almost a perfect fit. The most common way to make it fit is to just add clay. This should make the crackle larger, right? But if you recipe has no clay (and often crackle recipes don't) then you can't take clay away? So lower the alumina some other way. This probably isn't a technically correct way to formulate glazes for industry standards, but crackle isn't a proper glaze for kitchen ware which are needing sanitary qualities.
