Stain And Underglaze Removal

Recommended Posts

At what stage did you paint it? Bone dry or bisqued?

Blue is one of the worst colors to remove entirely as it stains the clay body.

You can wipe most of it off if it is bone dry but you will risk wetting your piece a lot and having it crack or lose any texture you have. You can even gently scrape away some of the remaining residue with a dental tool.

At the bisque stage you can run the piece under the water in the sink and scrub off with a kitchen scrubby if needed. It will most likely still leave a stain of blue on the piece. If you go this route you will need to let the piece dry for several days since the bisque is going to sow up a lot of water.

Good luck and let us know what worked!
