So, my wife loves pottery as a hobby, and I'll go to great lengths for her. I don't know squat about pottery, or kilns for that matter. But I spent 25 years doing foundry work, so I'm knowledgeable when it comes to refractory, fire brick, ceramic wool, and high temps. Not too long ago, I found an old Crusader Kiln that didn't cost me much. That company no longer exists, and there's definitely some parts missing. The refractory however, is in great shape. From the looks of it, I'll need to completely replace everything that goes between the breaker, and the coils, possibly even the coils themselves. I've always loved a challenge, and buying a new kiln for this is not impossible for us, but I'd definitely prefer to go this route if we can. Where can I start? What kind of controller setup/power supply/thermocouples should I be looking at? There are 6 individual coils in this that I was told were still good, but I'm not holding my breath. And I'm planning on fabbing a hinge setup to raise and lower the lid to hopefully prevent anyone from dropping it. I appreciate any help, wisdom, tips, and tricks. Thanks in advance.
